Living in another country is completely different from a vacation. Making the decision to live and study in Switzerland may be daunting, but if you accept the challenge, your mind and life will be enhanced in countless ways by what you learn. At Franklin, you are never alone. Members of our warm international community support you to get the most out of your international experience and will become part of your network.

Safety at Franklin

Franklin Switzerland is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive community where all students can learn, live, and thrive.

Franklin has a 24-hour emergency number, and we recommend you put it in your phone as soon as you arrive.

+41 79 211 46 89 is answered by a Resident Assistant, Community Assistant, or staff member at all times, and someone is available to help. Please note that this is not an information line 鈥 it is for emergencies only. If you are locked out of your on-campus apartment, if you or another person are injured and you don鈥檛 know what to do, or something just doesn鈥檛 feel right 鈥 please call.听

Resident Assistants live in each of the residence halls, and Community Assistants also provide support. The RAs and CAs are available to on-campus residents and students who live off-campus who need help in the moment. Each night, two RAs or CAs are 鈥渙n duty鈥 and conduct security rounds of campus. They go into each residence hall and walk along Via Ponte Tresa. When they are on duty, the RAs and CAs answer the Franklin emergency phone and respond to crises. Even when they are not on duty, the RAs are able to help with urgent situations on-campus. If you are off-campus and need help, however, you can always call the Franklin emergency number. In addition to the RAs and CAs, we also have a staff member in the Office of Student Life who is on duty at all times.

Franklin also contracts with a security service called Gruppo Sicurezza Servizi. A GSS representative also walks through all of campus after midnight each night, including academic and non-residential buildings.

Title IX, Respectful Relationships, and Personal Safety

Franklin follows the best practices of the Title IX protections to help ensure that students are free from sex-based discrimination, harassment, and other types of sexual misconduct.

Title IX is a US law that protects all university community members from discrimination and harassment based on gender identity. It also protects from various types of sexual misconduct such as stalking and dating violence. The coordinator鈥檚 role is to review the case and provide support as the case is resolved. Franklin鈥檚 Title IX Coordinator is trained to provide students with care and protections for every reported case regardless of the outcome. You can report a Title IX incident by telling a trusted RA or CA, a staff member on campus, using an online form that we will distribute on the first day of classes, or by reaching out directly to the Title IX Coordinator at titleixcoordinator@fus.edu.

As you begin your university experience, remember that healthy relationships are built on mutual respect, clear communication, and consent. When attending social events, parties, or clubs, take steps to prioritize your safety and the safety of those around you.
