What is WURI?
World's Universities with Real Impact (WURI) is a new ranking system established by the Organizing Committee of the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU). WURI evaluates the university’s real contributions to society, highlighting creative and innovative approaches of universities' research and educational programs based on the following sixteen categories:
1. For Students:
- Student Support and Engagement (from the students' point of view)
- Student Mobility and OpennessÌý(from the students' point of view)
2. For Industry:
- Industrial Application
- Entrepreneurial Spirit
3. For Society:
- Crisis Management
- Ethics and Integrity
4. For Global Community:
- Technology Development and Application
- SDG-Based Responses to Global Challenges
5. Subject (Leadership):
- Visionary Leadership
- Empowerment-Based Management (New in 2025)
6. Environment:
- ESG Trend (New in 2025)
- Culture/Values
7. Resource:

Evaluation Criteria
There areÌý16 categoriesÌýfor evaluation. Each of these 16 categories should then be evaluated based on the following three criteria.

Innovativeness: Evaluators should first assess the programs based on how innovative it is. This could be with the content of the program itself or with the process the institution has demonstrated in making their program more effective. The evaluators may consider one of these aspects or both.

Implementability: Apart from innovativeness, evaluators should also examine its implementability or doability. This can be assessed by measuring the costs and benefits of initiating the program.

Impact: Evaluators should consider both the scope and intensity of the program. In terms of scope, it should be judged whether the impact is limited to only one department, for example, or whether it is wide across the entire university. Additionally, the impact of the program can have a varying degree of intensity which must be weighed up carefully.
Based on these three criteria and to the best of your assessment, evaluators will select the best programs for each of the 16 categories from the list of applicants on the evaluation sheet.
